Chapter Sixteen
It was different from being alone. All I knew was that I had to go where Ella was. I had to go south. It felt like hours, and then I came to the entrance of the forest. I have never felt so alone in my entire life. Dain was not there. Ella was not around, so I had to be brave.
All I could do was keep on walking. Keep walking and do not look back. I was walking until my feet were hurting. Suddenly, I came to a terrain I was not familiar with. Rocks were all around me. It took me a minute to realize that all these rocks were something else. It was a wall. A wall that looked like it separated this place from the plains.
The wall looked like it was miles long, and I had to climb over it. I realized that this was going to be difficult. It was a night out, and I would do my best in the morning to climb it. Remembering everything Dain taught me, I knew I had to be ready for anything.
Being able to light a small fire, it was so cold. There were noises all around me. It felt like I was not alone.
âHello, whoâs there?â I asked.
No answer, the night remained quiet, but it still felt like someone was watching me.
âDain, if you are watching me, come out,â I yelled.
I knew it; he was hiding out a little way back from me. He walked towards me. It was something I was not expecting. His emotions showed happiness, and he wanted to be here. After what I wrote to him, I thought it was the end.
âBut...I thought you would stay. I wrote all of that, and yet you are here,â I said.
He stared at me. All he did was chuckle. He pulled out a sword; he had strapped to his back. Dain threw it on the ground right next to my feet.
âA man should always have a sword,â he said.
He stared at me for a while as we sat around the fire. I had to break the silence.
âI wrote to you. Why do you not hate me?â I asked.
âSomething you need to know is that I do not hate you. Being around you, making sure you are not in trouble, kid, I could never hate you. No matter who you are or what your lineage is, you need to tell me the truth now that we are here. Just like I did. If I am going to be heading in the direction of terrain, I swore I would never set foot in again; then I need to know it all,â he said with a straight face.
Of course, I knew he was right, so I told him everything from when I decided not to kill but to save a dragon. I went into detail about Anna and how Atlin figured it out about the two of us. He told my brother, and he has manipulated him. Going into details, Dain had such a look on his face.
